Conflict Minerals

Ever since Blood Diamond, everyone's been somewhat conscious of conflict diamonds, but it looks like we should give some attention to this much bigger market:

  1. What an interesting point. I still feel guilty about my engagement ring diamond - the Kimberly Process is basically BS and Ian didn't get me the Polar Bear Diamond from Canada.

    When I was in Madagascar for work there was a Rio Tinto mining operation in the south for - I think - tungsten or nickel. Granted, the situation there is nothing like the DRC but you still see how it changes communities and exploits the local population with cheap labor, increased prostitution, etc.
