Task #26: That Funky Monkey

Heidelberg Monkey
Find this statue and take a picture with you in it.

I wanted it to be a Brass Monkey, but it turns out Professor Gernot Rumpf installed this bronze monkey on the southern end of the Alte Brücke in 1979. Old drawings apparently show that a bridge monkey existed at the northern end as far back as the 15th century, but then wars happened and someone stole the monkey. I don't know why they didn't see that coming. What do you think is going to happen when you put a monkey statue in your front yard? The new artist signed his work by making a small mouse near the monkey but that was stolen as well. I guess they pulled out the big bolts because the two mice that he replaced the previous one with (mouse #2) were still there as of last Thursday.

The monkey, holding a "mirror," has an inscription next to him that reads,
Why are you looking at me? Haven't you seen the monkey in Heidelberg? Look around and you will probably see--more monkeys like me.

Crazy German humor.
